Random Portraits: Worth Every Moment

2013-09-26_0004Most of the photography I do results in a lot of pictures, a set if you will.  But sometimes, all I get is one single picture of a person that is beautiful and speaks volumes about nature, or who they are.  Sometimes I get two.  This blog post is a collection of those photographs from the last six months. The first of these photos (right) is a portrait of a model who helped me out with a class project.  The rest are portraits of friends.  🙂

Katie- Ann and Ben: Young Love in a Beautiful Place

2014-02-15_0001I’ve said this before, and I’m going to say it again- couples are my favorite people to photograph.  Something about photographing two people in love not only guarantees gorgeous and perfect images, but it allows me to spend time with people enjoying one another and to capture those moments for them to see forever.  When you add a stunning natural background in with that love, it makes for an amazing combination that you just can’t go wrong with.  That is how I feel about these pictures of Ben and Katie- Ann.  Young love with amazing colors and a gorgeous location.  What more could you ask for in a couple’s portrait shoot? Ben and Katy are goofy and adorable and I think their true personalities really show through in these pictures, which is exactly what I aim for in all of my portrait sessions. 2014-02-15_0002 There is nothing I like better than showcasing who people really are and how they feel about each other through photos. Our gorgeous ocean and forest backdrops were courtesy of Rathrevor Provincial Park just outside of beautiful Parksville, BC.  If you like what you see or would like to book a portrait session with me, please check out my Facebook page and my website 🙂

Click on the photos to see the larger versions.  I’m not sure why they aren’t showing up in a larger size.

Winter Harbor

Vancouver Island is and endless outdoor playground, and this weekend I visited yet another magical place on this island. I went to Winter Harbor for a fishing trip and just to enjoy being out in the wilderness. Winter harbor is about seven hours northwest of Nanaimo, BC, at the beginning of an inlet on the west coast of the island. It is very secluded and a full-blown rainforest. Here are a few of the pictures I took from the hamlet for Winter Harbor. I did not take my camera fishing with us, but we saw sea otters, whales, and caught a ridiculous number of fish, all while enjoying amazing scenery. I hope you enjoy the photos 🙂

Another Take on Mother Nature

The idea behind this shoot was to create a mother nature theme. Originally, I wanted to create two separate looks to show both the “bitch” and “angel” sides of mother nature. I wanted to get her covered in mud and in the dark woods looking kind of evil. I even had two kind of jewelry picked out for the two sides. However, all the mud had dried up and the evil side of things was just not happening for us. I tried to get my model to look kind of evil just through facial expressions and poses but it just wasn’t enough to pull off the look. Regardless, I think we got the softer side down quite well, so hopefully later on we can do the second angle of things. Mode: Katie Ann Thompson, Styling: Myself and Linda Louise Millar

Mushroom Obsession

So it is the time of year when there are a lot of small mushrooms around.  They are starting to grow in the grass, on stumps, in the moss… they’re all over the forest, and I love them.  I just can’t help it!  These are some of my most favorite mushroom photos that I have taken over the last two years.

The above photos were taken on the west coast of Canada, on Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland.  The below photos were all taken in the Madidi National Park in Bolivia.  These two places are my most favorite places on the planet. They offer me endless fulfillment and inspiration.

Avatar Grove

This beautiful grove of old growth forest is located about 20 minutes outside of Port Renfrew on the west coast of Vancouver Island.  This grove was found by a couple of guys who decided to go on a little bit of a hike one day.  It has newly been added to the list of protected areas in BC and is one of the very few places on the island that still contains old growth.  It is an incredibly gorgeous place to visit and it gives a beautiful look into what the island looked like before it was so heavily logged.  I highly recommend taking a trip there if you are ever on the SW side of the island.

Winter Fairies

These are some of the photos from the last creative shoot I did.  It was themed as winter fairies, as the title would suggest.  I stumbled across this field while me and my boyfriend were on a walk one day and it just called to me that it had a story which needed to be told.  Subsequently I was overwhelmed with inspiration and began formulating ideas for shoots to do here as soon as I got home.  This is the first shoot that I did in this space.  I am quite happy with how it turned out. Both of my models were incredibly creative and they vibed off of each other and myself.  It was a pleasure to work with them! It was Cheyanne’s first photo shoot and the third I had done with Camilla, and I can’t wait to work with both of them again!
